Fashion Designer & Creative Director, Caroline Matthews Design & Caroline Atelier
Founder, Dress Like a Boss & The Luxe Collective
Locations: Cork, Ireland & Leeds, U.K.
After 9 years as a successful, award-winning bridal designer with her collection, Caroline Atelier, designer Caroline Matthews decided to take it a step further and launch her fashion label, Caroline Matthews Design. If there’s something that Caroline thrives on, it’s a good challenge. Her fashion label may only be over a year old but she’s also about to launch a digital magazine, Dress Like a Boss, empowering women through fashion. If that isn’t enough, Caroline is taking her #girlboss status a step further with The Luxe Collective, helping other girl bosses succeed in their businesses. Nothing motivates this talented designer like the knowledge that her work doesn’t only make women feel good, but also stands for something.
What keeps you busy?
Keeping on top of production keeps us busy but being creative and designing is what I do most, which to me keeps me busy in a good way. I try to avoid too many meetings.
From the early days to what’s currently on your plate
I started with our bridal label, Caroline Atelier. From there I wanted to bring my true passion to life and create a fashion line that I absolutely love.
At the moment, I am finishing our AW16 collection to showcase to some buyers and finishing our latest bridal collection. I’m heading to Spain in a few weeks to shoot both collections. On top of that, I have a digital magazine that I’m launching shortly called Dress Like a Boss, which aims to empower women through fashion.
The rhyme or reason
I love to help women look and feel amazing in the clothes they wear. I want them to rock it out everyday and if I can be a part of that, then that’s awesome.
One day, I’ll look back and laugh at this…
Probably at my days carrying a suitcase full of fashion around the streets and trying to sell it! But I look back and mainly think of how proud I am of what I’ve achieved.
When the going gets tough…
I remind myself of why I am doing this. Our fashion label is not just another label. We stand for something and I know that amazing women feel good in our clothing. That keeps me going. Plus, it’s my dream and you never give up on a dream.
Full speed ahead…
I have an insane drive to succeed, even when it’s so hard. Next for me is a big push in the US and global markets and a move to somewhere hot! I’m also about to launch The Luxe Collective so I’m keeping really busy right now.
The moments that make it all worth it
The awards we have won and the recognition we have received. When the collection arrives at the door, all new and finished, it makes it all worth while. Also, helping other women in business and in creating lives they love.
My mum. She’s strong, always good for advice and keeps me grounded. Also my hero is my little brother, who is so inspiring and keeps me wanting to push myself forward.
Words to live by
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” -Winston Churchill
To have a global brand, an accessories line and to live and work anywhere in the world – preferably on a beach or in the snow mountains in the winter.
